Leaf springs - are springs made of a flat (leaf) profile. 
The most famous leaf springs are springs for cars and trains. Elliptical or parabolic springs. 

Leaf springs also include spiral springs, flat springs and shaped springs. 

Spiral springs: 
They were also called clock springs in the old days. Used as a mechanism drive. Very widely used in cars. 
These leaf springs are used in seat belts, tape measures, window pullers, locks and many devices from drills to CNC machines. 
The use is very wide.
